Martin A. Shaw, Ph.D.
Founder, O.R.T. Institute
Dr. Shaw (1944-2019) studied perception and research design at the University
of Wisconsin (Ph.D., 1977) and subsequently completed five years of
advanced study and clinical training in psychoanalysis (A.I.A.P.,
1982).
Throughout the 1980's he worked with O.R.T.
originator Herbert Phillipson, and
ultimately was elected by Phillipson to have all future
responsibility for the O.R.T. Plates,
their conservation and precise quality control. It was through Dr.
Shaw's work with Carl Zeiss Optics, Inc., and other experts that
the all-important stimulus Plates were brought to their present
New Standard and Fully-Authorized Edition
from O.R.T. Institute
In addition to authoring the new O.R.T. Manual, and his numerous responsibilities
as Executive Director of the Institute, Dr. Shaw has utilized the
O.R.T. in his private practice in New York for over 35 years,
specializing in treatment with adolescent males and consulting to
private secondary schools.
In recognition of his work with the O.R.T., Dr.
Shaw has been named a Fellow of the (American) Society for
Personality Assessment and an Honorary Fellow of the British
Society for Projective Psychology. Other honors and awards he has
received include the N.Y.U. Founder's Day Award, Pi Lambda Theta
honors from the University of Wisconsin, and a V.A. Commendation
for his early-career work with young veterans during the Vietnam
War.
